# The program asks for a six-digit code during login. What is this?

The six-digit code is related to **two-factor authentication (2FA/MFA)**. It is a changing, one-time code generated by an authenticator app (such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator) that improves the security of your account. The code changes approximately every 30 seconds.

###### What to do
* If 2FA is already enabled: Open your authenticator app, find the Granite account entry, and enter the 6-digit code shown in the app to confirm your login.
* If you have never enabled 2FA or your phone/app has been changed or reinstalled: Contact Granite support and request a **2FA reset**.
The next time you log in, you will see a QR code. Scan it with your authenticator app. After this, your app will start generating 6-digit codes for login.

###### If the code is not accepted
* Make sure you are using the correct account entry in your authenticator app (codes for other services will not work).
* Check that your phone’s time is correct and set to **automatic synchronization**.
* If you enter the wrong code multiple times, your account may be locked. Contact support to unlock it; 2FA can be temporarily disabled or reset if necessary.

###### Tips
* If login only asks for a 6-digit code and does not show a QR code, 2FA is already linked to a previous device.
    * The solution is to reset 2FA and set it up again.
